Lebanon's first science olympiad program.

About

The Lebanese Association for Science Olympiads (LASO) is a Lebanon-based association helping Lebanese students prepare for the world's leading international science olympiads.

In July 2026, our delegation attended the IMO in Shanghai as observers. We are building on that experience to prepare Lebanon's first competing team for the 2027 IMO in Hungary. We have the backing of the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and the Mathematics departments of AUB, LAU, and NDU have expressed interest in supporting the program.

Goals

01

IMO participation

Send a Lebanese team to the IMO for the first time. We attended the Shanghai edition as observers in July 2026 and are sending a competing team to the 2027 edition in Hungary.

02

Training program

Run a mathematics training program for Lebanese high school students, with problems, resources, and contact with experienced coaches.

03

University admissions

Help exceptional students build the knowledge, discipline, and record needed for competitive undergraduate science programs.

04

Six olympiad pathways

Build dedicated programs for mathematics (IMO), physics (IPhO), informatics (IOI), artificial intelligence (IOAI), chemistry (IChO), and biology (IBO).

Scope

IMOActive

International Mathematical Olympiad

An annual mathematics competition held each July for high school students. Six problems over two days. Our delegation attended the Shanghai edition as observers in July 2026, and we are sending a competing team to Hungary in 2027.

IPhOPlanned

International Physics Olympiad

An annual physics competition with theoretical and experimental components. A dedicated Lebanese training track is on our roadmap.

IOIPlanned

International Olympiad in Informatics

An annual competitive programming competition for high school students. We plan to build a dedicated informatics program.

IOAIPlanned

International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence

An annual artificial intelligence competition, and the newest of the six. Scientific and practical rounds test machine learning end to end.

IChOFuture scope

International Chemistry Olympiad

An annual chemistry competition combining demanding theoretical work with practical laboratory skills.

IBOFuture scope

International Biology Olympiad

An annual biology competition testing students across theory, analysis, and practical laboratory work.
