Lebanon's first science olympiad program.

About

The Lebanese Association for Science Olympiads (LASO) is a registered Lebanese association. We organise Lebanon's national science olympiads, select and train the national teams, represent Lebanon at the international olympiads, and run the free study platform students use between competitions.

Goals

01

Annual national olympiads

Run a national olympiad in each science every year, open to every middle and high school student in Lebanon, with a supervised qualifying round in centres across the country, a national final, and selection camps.

02

International participation

Send Lebanese teams to the international olympiads, starting with the IMO in Hungary in 2027, followed by the IPhO, IOI, and IOAI, and later the IChO and IBO.

03

Year-round training

Provide a free platform with a structured syllabus, practice problems, past papers, and a forum, together with training camps and coaching from university mathematicians and former competitors.

04

Coaches and problem setters

Build a network of teachers, university faculty, and alumni who write problems, coach students, and grade papers. Membership is open to anyone who wants to help.

05

Access for every student

Keep the program free for students, available in Arabic, French, and English, with exam centres in every region of the country.

06

University preparation

Help students build the knowledge, discipline, and record that competitive undergraduate programs require, and bring them back later as coaches.

Scope

IMOActive

International Mathematical Olympiad

An annual mathematics competition held each July for high school students. Six problems over two days. Our delegation attended the Shanghai edition as observers in July 2026, and we are sending a competing team to Hungary in 2027.

IPhOPlanned

International Physics Olympiad

An annual physics competition with theoretical and experimental components. A dedicated Lebanese training track is on our roadmap.

IOIPlanned

International Olympiad in Informatics

An annual competitive programming competition for high school students. We plan to build a dedicated informatics program.

IOAIPlanned

International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence

An annual artificial intelligence competition, and the newest of the six. Scientific and practical rounds test machine learning end to end.

IChOFuture scope

International Chemistry Olympiad

An annual chemistry competition combining demanding theoretical work with practical laboratory skills.

IBOFuture scope

International Biology Olympiad

An annual biology competition testing students across theory, analysis, and practical laboratory work.
